UPDATE: 01/11/2012 - We are all still screwed. Other priorities created by the powerful elite have distracted our great nation from dealing with student loan debt in a responsible manner. Be sure to vote in 2012 - put progressives back in charge of the Congress and then scream like hell at them to get done what you want!

No Response From Sen. Schumer

Well here I am two full weeks later and I have yet to receive a response from Senator Schumer's office about what he intends to do with the current student loan crisis.

From the lack of response I think its fair to assume that he plans to do absolutely nothing.

My next approach is to contact the US Department of Education about what they are doing.

An inquiry into the status of the Direct Loan Servicing Center website has revealed that it is run through the Department of Education.

  1. the student debt dilemma seems to be of low priority, which is very troubling to me. certainly they are aware that this is a very real problem. right? i've been writing letters as well, but haven't had the nerve to send all of them at this point --- due to a suspicion nobody will take the time to respond or even read. i guess i'll continue the attempt in making my voice heard (as you are), but i have to admit that i am feeling more than a little disheartened at the present moment.

  2. Dear Spencer,

Its nice to know that someone is reading this. Thanks for the comment!

Its very disturbing to me that we are creating a generation of financial castaways because they made a decision to get an education.

Unfortunately, as a group, we are treated as some type of financial pariah - nobody wants to discuss the problem and nobody wants to lend a hand. We are treated differently than all other types borrowers - we cannot seek relief from this life crippling debt through any form of bankruptcy - even if it means we can't get married, have children, buy a home, etc.

Our lives are crippled while banks, automakers, homebuyers and insurance companies receive financial assistance. It's interesting how the mistakes of others have become our problems as taxpayers but when we as student loan borrowers experience difficulties we are forgotten.

It's a disgusting situation and for now I think all sl borrowers need to get angry and make this an issue for their elected officials. I don't see any other choice available to us.

I hope this is only the beginning of our exchange and that this finds you well.

    Regards,
    J. Densmore
